Re: uninstall 3rd party popoup blocker

Make sure you are logged on as an administrator and you may need to take
ownership of the folder that contains the files and then give administrators
full control and then delete. Then you could search the registry for entries
for that program using regedit and delete them if you are comfortable doing
such. But FIRST I would try using a spyware removal program or two like
AdAware SE that is free for personal use and maybe BHODemon that could
identify and let you remove the popup blocker and you may need to run them
in Safe Mode also. SpyBot Search and Destroy is another great spyware
detection and removal program. These programs however may not detect the
application as spyware but it is worth a try. It may also help to go to
Internet Explorer/tools/internet options/advanced - and uncheck enable third
party browser extensions which requires a restart and then try your repairs
if still having difficulty. Depending on how the program works you may also
be able to use msconfig [enter msconfig in run box and hot OK to start] to
disable it at startup. The links below may help. --- Steve

still woth trying

you can manage BHOs in advanced mode.

I am a Cox Communications High Speed Internet customer. A couple of years
ago
they touted a product from SmithMicro on the Cox website, urging customers
to
download a popup blocker/antispam thing called CheckIt86. Now I have real
protection and simply want to get rid of CheckIt86. Cox won't help,
SmithMicro doesn't have any support for the defunct thing and I can't
uninstall through control panel. I tried to delete from the hard drive,
but
the program denies access when I try to delete the folder. Anybody got any
ideas on how to rid my machine of this vermin?
Be nice, I'm not that smart and I have learned my lesson....

Thanks
