Can you logon as an administrator and then configure it to be enabled? Is
the firewall service enabled and started? Post results of netsh firewall
show state after you enable it [assuming you are successful] amd after
reboot. Do you have another software firewall installed?? If you can enable
it does it stay enabled after you reboot into Safe Mode with networking? Is
your computer current with all critical security updates from Windows

My windows firewall defaults of off when I start up my system. I cannot

I would also use ipconfig /all to make sure that it shows the same IP
configuration [particularly DNS servers and NEVER an ISP DNS server] as
computers that don't have the same problem. It almost sounds like it does
not detect that it is connected to the domain at startup. Looking in the
application log could help verify that if you see any problems with Group
Policy at startup such as userenv errors/warnings. Computers with
wireless
network adapters are especially prone to the problem. If nothing seems
to
help I would try putting another network adapter in the computer and
maybe
try a different cable to the switch and even a different switch port. The
support tool netdiag can also be helpful in diagnosing network/domain

I've got an XP SP2 machine on a domain with a group policy for the
firewall.
However, the firewall resets to Off after every reboot. All the
services
are
set the way they should be and running fine on boot/login. I've tried
removing from the GP and the domain all together, still no luck.

I've also tried a winsock rest to no avail.

The only security software installed is Symantec AV corp 10.

At this point, I'm stumped. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks.
