When you say two other computer are set up exactly the same I assume you
mean they have different host IP addresses but the same for subnet mask and
default gateway?? Try pinging yahoo.com from a computer that can access the
internet and then ping the IP address that is returned from the problem
computer to see if that works or not. If that works you may have a problem
with winsock on the computer and you can use the command netsh int ip reset
c:\resetlog.txt to reset winsock to see if that helps. --- Steve

I'm trying to setup a computer to use the internet throught a Ethernet
SmartSwitch.
As soon as I boot up the XP Pro machine it cannot assign an ip address so
I
manually do it
ie 192.168.2.100
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway of 192.168.2.1 (dns)
that says it is fine but still internet explorer or anything else that
uses
the inter will not work.
Using the command prompt I can ping 192.168.2.1 and it works fine. Ip
config
says it is fine too.
I have tried the wizards for setting up the internet and network with no
joy. With lan settings I have tried ticking on/off automatically detect
settings.
Two other computers are set up exactly the same way and work. Can anyone
please help?
Thanks.
