Re: Administrator Sign in

Here are two options you could try:

1. Courtesy of Kelly Theriot, MS-MVP
Add Control Userpasswords2 to Control Panel
Line 1, right hand column
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
This makes the alternate User Accounts applet available through
the Control Panel.
Note: This is what I do on my systems as well as many of the
computers I work on. It adds an icon in Control Panel named
User Accounts 2.

2. Download and install Microsoft's TweakUI PowerToy for
Windows XP.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Run TweakUI and navigate to Logon -> Autologon. Enter the name
and password of the user you want to have logged on at startup.
Check the box and click OK.

Good luck

Thanks for the question and answer. It worked with me too.
But is there a more traditional way (click your way through
from control pannel) to get to that location to make the
changes without going through the run command?

I am using XP home edition with SP2 and I am the only user.
How can I get my PC to go straight to desktop without
having to click on the Computer Administrator icon when
starting up?

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on the account
you want to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use
this computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked
on earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account
does not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

Good luck
