I am attempting to configure my compaq tablet for our 5 year old so
that she can click on an icon to login to windows rather than typing a
user name and password. I had used this tablet pc for my business and
it was configured to login in to the company network. I changed a
system setting from login in to business network to login to home
network and the old Administrator password is no longer available.
How do I retrieve the old admin and user passwords or get around this
or restore the system to its previous state?
OK, you have a tablet PC that was a domain member. By changing the
tablet PC to a member of a workgroup, you disjoined it from the domain.
If you are still using the computer at work, take it to your office's
systems administrator and have them rejoin it to the domain. Ask them
to make some local accounts for you and your daughter.
If you are no longer using the table PC at work, then ask your office
systems administrator for the local Administrator password, log in with
that, and make your changes. If this isn't possible, use NTpasswd to
change the local Administrator password to a blank. Then log in, go to
the User Accounts applet and make desired changes.
