Here is where the problem comes from.
You have two (hude) antivirus softwares .

How to fix:

1.Goto Control Panel->Add/Remove programs
Remove Norton . Remove McAfee,too.
Restart .
Remove any tracks left in C:\Program files regarding
Symantec,LiveUpdate,Norton , McAfee .


2 .Download Symantec Norton removal tool called SymNRT.exe

This will remove all Norton tracks left .

Restart.

3. Now install the desired antivirus sofware.McAfee seems to be newer than
Norton (I understand it from your post) so install the newer one.
As you have 480 Mb RAM , your system will not be slow with one antivirus
software.

If you do not want McAfee but do wish to change your antivirus , you can
have a look at Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus+Antispyware or Kaspersky AV

Also , what is your processor speed and RAM amount
Right click on My Computer ->Properties


Is McAfee your onliest antivirus , what was your previous one or things like
that...

If you have 256 RAM amount,remove McAfee and change to either Kaspersky or
Nod32 which are ligher and also good at detecting malware.
AVG from Grisoft is free and is really light on resourses.
