Thank you for your suggestions. I was not able to download the Panda active
scan, nor the Titanuim 2006. I did follow through with the other scans and
did remove some negligible items. Since I could not download the Panda, I
did download the AVG so I would have protection in the meantime, although the
Titanium sounded like a good package and hope to be able to download it soon.
It seems that everything is working much better, however each time I try to
copy data to the disk drive (I only have the cd/dvd drive) it still tells me
that drive d is an "incorrect function." I did get an external harddrive
just in case (and figure it wouldn't hurt to have in the future).
Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing the drive problem?
Thank you so much!
What you should do :.
1. Connect to internet and perform the malware removal instructions in my
2. At the end scan your computer with Panda's free Active Scan (for all kind
3. If this doesn't fix your problem , try to do a repair install of your
You could try running the System File Checker (sfc.exe),
this will scan all protected Windows files to verify their versions have not
been overwritten or damaged,
and if so will replace the compromised version with a fresh copy.
To run it, click Start/Run and type 'sfc.exe /scannow'
Make sure your Windows CD (which you received when you bought your Windows)
is near you ,you'll need it to do the repair.
!!! VERY IMPORTANT >>> Make sure your computer is 100% malware free before
doing the repair !!!
3. Renew your antivirus subscription OR buy another antivirus
My opinion for qualitative (good) antivirus:
the best : Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus and Antispyware
Very good : Norton Antivirus 2006
(use Nod32 if you have old computer small amout of RAM or low speed processor)
4. Learn how to protect your PC:
TIP !!! When you have internet problems , always insist on your opinion

I need advice on how to nurse my laptop back to health. I inadvertently let
my virus ware expire and I do connect to the internet. The first signs of
the problem were it not letting me onto the internet. I called my isp,
followed their instructions and shut down the laptop, uplugged the router and
modem, waited a few minutes, plugged up the router and modem, started my
laptop and did gain access to the internet. However, when I closed my
internet conncection and tried to reconnect, it would not let me. Further
discussion with my isp concluded that I must have a virus. I do have spybot
S+D, Adaware and SpyDoctor, have used them all (although not in safe mode)
and it comes up clean.
I can receive/send email and access that. But It will not let me into My
Computer, My Documents, control panel, etc. I can access these in safe mode,
but not sure what to do from there. I have saved my word and excel documents
(by going in through the program, opening a file, and selecting all to copy)
and scans and videos. I have not figured out a way to save my photos and
music. I tried and thought that's what it was doing, but the music cd only
had one song and not one I chose to copy and the photo cd only had the icon
of HPimage whatever. I tried to save these items from safe mode, but it
tells me that drive is "incorrect function."
I would like to save those in addition to some emails before I have to try
system restore. I'm not sure what else to do. Any suggestions are
