Ok. that is exactly what stumped me. thank you so much for
your help. now i am back to using the administrator
account that i started with. i deleted the other two
account i set up when i got to the userspasswords box and
realized the option to delete accounts. that would have
saved me a lot of time to begin with. now, i am still
getting a prompt "the system could not log you on, please
enter password." can you help me on this one?

OK. So what happens when you try to log on with the old
account?

Your question left me with the impression that you
couldn't log on with your old account. There are two ways
that can happen. The old account may be corrupted or you
were using the built-in Administrator account. As soon as
you create a second account that is a member of the
Administrator's group, the Administrator account can only
be accessed from the Log on to Windows dialog or in Safe
Mode.

Why must I copy the old profile? If it still exists,
can't I simply revert to using it instead of the olne i've
created? Can i simply delete the new profile to
automatically go back to the first?

After getting an "administrator permission" notice when
atrtempting to import favourites, I decided to create a

changed my desktop, changed themes, deleted MDG icons

installed, and changed the system tray. how do I get
things back to how they were?

Either of these procedures will allow you to copy the
files from the old user account into a new user account.

How do I copy a user profile in Windows XP?

You will have to use a third account which is a computer
administrator in order to copy the files. You can use the
built-in Administrator account or, if you're running XP
Home, create a temporary admin account that can be
deleted once the procedure is completed.

Good luck
