WinXP System Restore won't Run

I've been having a number of problems with my PC as of late. I don't
know if a reinstall is in my future but I'm not looking forward to it
because I would have to install back to the shipping version of WinXP
Pro. I can't slip stream because I have an OEM version of pro.
I first noticed problems with my icons. They were messed up. When I'd
go and check on icons, it said it couldn't find the path. I manually
reset my icons.
Then I was unable to run MSOffice 2003. I couldn't uninstall because
it said it couldn't find files. It was ugly but I got past it.
Now, I can't run System Restore. When I try to load it, it says I need
to restart my computer. When I do, I still can't run it, I get the
same message.
When I go to the services tab, it says the service (System Restore
Service) is stopped. When I go to manually start it, I get the
following error:
Could not start the System Restore Service service on Local Computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.
So I don't know if there are more problems than this but I don't feel
secure with this set up as is atm. I think (but I'm not sure) that the
problem started when I cloned my old hard drive and moved it to a new
larger harddrive.
Help?!?
Jeff
