I have been asking the same questions with no answers or solutions.
So yes. you can order a "free' copies of the XP SP2 Service pack update, but
where does that place you after that. You have approximately 36 updates
post this SP2 update. I would think this could constitute as a SP2 Refresh
e.g. XP SP2 R2 or even Service Pack 3. But there has been nothing. What
about that slooooooooow dialup user whom now has to download 30+ updates to
secure their system. Very unfair to them I would say.
Now what you could do is this but it doesn't work as some updates do break
the others.
After a fresh clean install of XP with SP2 (in vmware is my choice) begin
doing windows updates and then copy the installer files from the download.
And store then in another area on disk as they will be removed. Then you
would have a copy of all the update parts. But there is a issue with this.
In what order do you install each update. Does that even matter? I am
going to go and test this out and see.. And if it works I am going to start
uploading a ISO into alt.binary.. usenet groups so that others can have.
