Somehow I set the Antivirus to ON in the XP Security Center. I already have
a very good antivirus program and do no want to run the Windows version. I
have searched for hours trying to find information on how to turn this to
OFF. Once I turn it off, I can select the "I have antivirus software that
I'll monitor myself". I don't know how that got unchecked in the first
place.
Windows XP does NOT come with any anti-virus software. You will have to install a 3rd party AV program. Some have been coded so the Security Center is made aware of the AV program, but some don't so the Security Center can't tell if you have any AV software (i.e., you are using an old-coded AV program that hasn't bothered to update to make itself Security Center aware). You never bothered to identify your AV program.
Your question is vague. You said that you disabled the check in Security Center and set it to not monitor for AV software, so now you shouldn't get an alert. So what is your question now?
