| Hi
|
| Which IP Protocols are active on an out-of-the-box Windows XP Pro
| installation ?
| I'm asking from the perspective of identifying which protocols I should
| block on my outer firewall.

| Thanks.

IP is a family and you must realize that the Internet Protocol (IP) is used for high level
internetworking communications and has a sub-family protocols known as the User Datagram
Protocol (UDP) which is a connection-less protocol and the Transmission Control protocol
(TCP) which is a connection-full protocol. Both are actually used for communications once
IP makes a connection.
There are both TCP and UDP protocols that are open. They can include; 135, 137, 138 and
139, 445.
Based upon configuration it may include; 500, 520, 1723.
