I apologize, I neglected to mention that I am running Windows XP Professional
and I've installed SP1. SP2 has some over zealous security features that I
found to be more of a help than a hinderance. In any case SP2 doesn't
resolve the problem I first noticed it in SP2. I wiped the drive and started
over with just SP1. The primary problem I seem to be encountering is that the
Shadow Volume Copy failes. I have tried running the ASR back up manually
using the snap:off switch for ntbackup, but this doesn't work, at least not
for backing up the System State.
The article that was posted appears to address general problems with the
backup utility. Mine is specific to volume shadow copy. I have found that I
can run the backup on other files. Just not System state because it tries to
do a volume shadow copy which basically tries grab the files even if they are
currently in use.
