I tried posting this on msdn but it didn't even make the list???? Anyway,I
have a backup program that is needing to write data to a share drive on a XP
Pro machine in my network. All XP's in my network have SP2 installed. I can
see the drive and the map was therefore successful from the svr. All XP's
have "simple file sharing" turned off. Now when I try to write to or copy a
file from the svr to the xp share drive, I get a "access denied" error. I
went to KB and found #328170 which says that SP2 on XP Pro should be fixed.
Well, it is either not right or I am doing something wrong. Also I have gone
(on XP's) into Control Panel/Folder Options and made sure "simple file
sharing" is off and all settings applied to ALL FOLDERS. Initially I was
using only workgroups. I tried installing Active Directory on the server and
promoting it to be a DC. ( I did not have one before) I re-established the
drive mappings after all this, but nothing seems to work. Every time I look
at the directory properties of the share drive, it is RO. I cannot write
even though I log into the share as a "local user" on the target machine.
Local userID has been checked and has "Full Control" on the share. Any
clues, suggestions, solutions, etc would be greatly appreciated.
