Noone can steal a password. You do correctly identify that your personal
details may have been changed by another person.

So why break our into a sweat about it? The security of that email address
and anything else that was associated with it is compromised. BURN IT.

Log onto Hotmail and create a new username and everything else. Try making
a longer passwrod with numeric and alpha characters that do not have you name
or initials. Also don't write it down on a piece of paper next to your PC
for everyone to copy down and abuse.

Don't be surprised, it is amazing how many people leave this information
right next to their PCs in the open for other people to copy.
