repeated scratching sound from computer

My computer has developed a repeated scratching sound. When i shut down and
restart it, it doesn't begin making sound but after a while it starts
scratching again. Its a new computer running on windows XP and is about 1
year old. Theres no floopy disk stuck in it or anything like that. Hope
someone can advise..
