1. You can try taking ownership of the folder/files:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 - HOW TO: Take Ownership of a
File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421]

2. In order to see the security tab:

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. In Folder Options - View, uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'. That is
the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by default in
Pro, too.

3. If the above items don't work/apply, then you can circumvent the
Windows permissions by booting with Knoppix, a Linux distro that runs
from cd. Get Knoppix at www.knoppix.net - you will need a fast Internet
connection and third-party cd-burning software to create the bootable
cd from the .iso. Slave the drive to be recovered in a machine with two
cd drives, one of which being a burner. Boot with Knoppix and burn the
data using the k3b program.
