Well Jackson, yes & no. Simply turning off the notifications does not
disable the program (as the 'security center' help file makes clear). If it
shows up in the system tray, it is still sucking up cycles: it just does not
show any notices.

The best/easiest way to actually get rid of the beast is to use, as Torgeir
Bakken also suggested, 'services' to keep it from loading.
