Post-SP2: frequent call drops in NetMeeting (through VPN)

Hello,

I contacted Microsoft about this problem. Running Windows XP, I use
NetMeeting through a VPN
to remotely control my work-based PC desktop. After no more
than a moment of inactivity in my session, the NetMeeting call is dropped. I
enabled the firewall logging and saw that indeed it looked like the
connection was forcibly closed. I've read that the SP2 Windows firewall will
close any port whose connection is deemed idle. Is this the cause?

Anyways, the reply I received from the MS tech was to install the following
patch:

Overview:
"This update helps resolve an issue on computers running Windows XP Service
Pack 2. Programs that connect to IP addresses in the loopback address range
may not work as expected and you may receive an error message indicating you
cannot establish a connection."

I haven't yet tried the patch, and am hesistant. It doesn't seem to describe
the same symptoms (i.e. the problem is not that I cannot connect...only that
the connection is forcibly dropped after a very small window of inactivity).

Does anyone have any comment on this MS patch? Is the use of IP addresses in
the 'loopback address range' relevant to connecting through a VPN
using desktop sharing (NetMeeting/Timbuktu)?
