Service Pack 2 on XP

I have XP & Norton Antivirus & Norton Internet Security
(updated frequently). Last night Microsoft auto update
installed Service Pack 2. I enabled Norton, but noted
that the Microsoft Firewall was also checked. Prior to
the Auto update coming on, I had the icon on my desktop
for the Norton Internet Security visible, but strangely
the Norton Antivirus icon was missing from the system
tray. After the Service Pack 2 download completed, and the
system rebooted, the computer was extremely slow in
booting up, all the desktop icons were very slow to come
on and some were missing, like my Outlook Express, which
was gone. In addition, the entire computer was running
slower than before the Service Pack update. I went to the
backdate Wizard and put in last Friday's date, now
everything is better, except it is taking a very long time
for my Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security to
load on the boot up. I checked the Explorer File, and the
Service Pack 2 is there with yesterday's date. Did I
disable Service Pack 2 by backdating? Do I need to do
anything else to make my computer more compatible to
Service Pack 2 and my Norton programs? Do I need to look
for Windows Firewall option and perhaps turn it off, if it
is on?
