automatic logoff

I too have the virus that will not let me log on to
Windows XP Home Edition. As soon as the user is selected,
XP tries to load and logs off. I am assuming that this is
a virus that infected the computer last Friday. It was
detected by NAV, but upon reboot it no longer worked. I
need suggestions to removal or reload of XP. I have tried
the XP disk (upgrade version) in the CD, but it does not
seem to be a bootable disk (yes the BIOS is set up to try
the CD drive).

Any help would be much appreciated,

Chuck
