Many services have been turned off, but not before
ensuring that Dependencies don't seem to be important.
Background:
Laptop is used as a desktop. It doesn't travel. Its AC
power profile includes lid-close action set to Sleep.
Hibernation is off.
Ever since installing SP2, all other things being the
same, (except for updating existing programs), a
persistent annoyance has become, that, upon waking the
laptop from sleep, it cannot immediately connect to
the 'net. Unless I twiddle my thumbs for about 30-60
seconds, attempts to launch IE (latest version) or Eudora
(POP3 e-mail interface), these programs fail, but do not
crash (IE struuggles, then complains that "The page
cannot be displayed, Eudora has a different, but
equivalent problem).
Upon waking from sleep, if Task Manager is launched
quickly, it shows one or two extra proccesses (extra in
the sense that after the system has been awake for
awhile, they no longer appear): wuauclt.exe &
wmiprvse.exe (or something pretty closed to that).
Question:
Since none of the detection programs mentioned above find
a problem, is this delayed ability to connect to the 'net
normal & acceptable? I stress that the only change, with
the exception of installing updates to the detection
software programs, is the installation of SP2 and the
concomitant appearance of wuauclt.exe and wmiprsrve.exe
in the Task Manager. (A search on both of these
exececutables reveals that they reside in locations in
which they are expected to reside).
