To address your nervous issue... NEVER do anything on a corporate computer
that you would not want in the local paper. It is not your asset. Your
company owns it and can therefore monitor it. You probubly signed a consent
form allowing them to when you signed for your password. There is also a
screen that normally passes in front of youe eyes just before you log in that
we never read but that explains this..."Logging in gives consent to be
monitored." Most IT staffers have the ability to monitor your e-mail,
network files, and more. Due to enron and other companies breaking the law ,
corporate communication are being filed for 7 years by law. There is
software out there that can count you key strokes in every program and report
your productivity back to a centeral server for your boss to look at. I
would ask at this point if you feel as though you are being productive? This
is after all what you are being PAID for. If your work is comparable to your
co-workers I suggest you do a little more and look better to your boss. I
concede you are uncomfortable with being watched. We all are. If you
understand the monitoring is in place and will never go away you will come to
acceptance and proceed accordingly. Life is not required to be fair, make
sense, or give you good weather to do things in. In all cases one of these
applies. In this case the unfair rule. Good luck.
