can not get windows to open

I'm not sure if I'm at the right place to ask or get
help, but here goes. My Dad, has a new Dell computer,
several months old. He has a name and password set up for
himself(in the event another family member would use his
computer). Today when he tried to use his computer, he
could get connected (dial-up) but everytime he put his
name and password in he got a message box stating it was
an invalid username and password. He and I know little
about computers and don't know what to do to fix the
problem. Any one have any ideas? If more info is needed
I'll try to get it.
