Need to Edit the Registry

Hi, I have old files that I need to remove from my registry as they are
interfering with my AV program. How do I do this?? I understand that it's
easy to mess up the registry and I don't want to do that.

I'm using Windows XP Home edition.

Any assistance is appreciated! Thanks!
