Today my computer started shutting down during normal
system conditions. When I turn it back on, it will turn
itself back off within 15 seconds - 15 minutes or so. I
went to the Microsoft KB and followed the instructions
of "mitigating the vulnerability" which included creating
a log file and then making it read-only. I turned on the
XP firewall and reconnected to the internet, downloaded
security update 835732 as directed. When the computer
restared after installing the security update, the
problem was not fixed, as the computer turned itself off
again as I was about to download the "Sasser Worm Removal
Tool." I have tried System Restore and the computer will
go through the System Restore process, but upon the
computer starting up again, it says that the System
Restore has failed and that no changes have been made.
In the KB the only other thing I can find is about a
computer that unexpectedly restarts; mine is not
restarting, just turning itself off.
Any help would be appreciated, many thanks.
