I do not know the name of the stub that will later download XP SP2.
Since there is no xpsp2.exe on your system then just the stub was
downloaded . First enable " Show hidden files and folders " via
Folder Options in the Control Panel and then look for the stub in
the Program Files\Windows Update\V4 folder . It *should* be in a
temp folder in that location.

Have my system set to Notify also as some of the updates deemed
Critical are *not*, IMHO ... KB 831167 being one of those :

The update is aimed at system's experiencing issues after doing
832894, MS04-004: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.
If the system is not experiencing issues with secure (SSL) sites,
then why would it require this particular update ?

Also agree that a User's AU setting should *not* be changed without
notification.

Windows Update from the drop down window :
