Yes, this is a frequently posted response to the FAQ. While I agree that we
don't know how much a FAQ reduces the posting volume if at all, it still has
other benefits. 1) it allows myself and some of the others here to quickly
post a link as an answer instead of writing one or more paragraphs and/or
having to search Google for the link. 2) the answers in the FAQ are longer
and I would hope more complete than manually typing a quick response...
posting a link from a FAQ might arguably be more consistent and have
theoretically been publicly vetted by others. 3) you can't tell someone
"you should have read the FAQ first" until there is a FAQ. 4) if it only
reduces the posting volume a little, that's still a good thing IMHO.
