it might also be a good idea to disable your Messenger service.
If you are not in the habit of sending messages (of the NET SEND type) to
other machines and don't expect others to do that to you, you don't really
need that service.
That way you are at least not tempted to actually hit the cancel button on
those messages, thereby usually only worsening the problem.

Check out http://www.grc.com/default.htm (Shoot the Messenger) end also on
that site you might want to pay a visit to the "ShieldsUp" link, to get an
idea of what *your* machine exposes to the world as potential entrypoints to
your box. (ie. who well are you firewalled)
