Hi:

KB295017 does not mention the following security directive,
but must be there for a reazon.. you may need to configure it to
be able to make the installation.

Start\Run\secpol.msc\Local Directives\User Rights Assignment\
Add the administrator to directive: AddWorkstation to Domaine..

Start\Run\lusrmgr.msc\Groups\add the administrator to Group:
Network Configuration Operators...

If by chance you're missing some detail, this may help...
How To: change a computer name or join a domaine in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;295017&Product=winxp
(295017) - Describes how to change the name of a computer, join a domain,
add a computer description, and use the Network ID Wizard in Windows XP.
