I have being locked out of my PC twice in a row with a
similar scenario.
On boot when I attempt to click on my user name it
displays 2 error message boxes:

Windows -- Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data
      for the file C:\$Mft.
    The data has been lost.
  [OK]

User Environment
Windows cannot create a temporary profile directory.
This may be caused by insufficient security rights.
If this problem persists, contact your
      network administrator.
   [OK]

I have done nothing to explicitly change the permissions
on the PC. The onlky suspicious item may be that I have
installed MS Visual Studio .NET 2003 and I have
installed the latest MS Windows XP Updates.

The first time this happened I used the Windows XP SP1
Install CDrom and tried a Repair, but this made no
difference to the boot lock out.
The only way to log on was to install a new copy of
Windows XP.
What could be causing this problem ?
