XP Home suddenly asks for User Pwd !

For months now, booting went straight into windows (normal).
This morning, it suddenly showed an old User and required a Pwd to logon to windows. None of my normal Pwds are working therefore cannot get in.

Tried Safe mode as Admin and cannot reset passwords this way.
Tried control userpasswords2 in Run and could not go any furhter
Tried mmc in Run to try to reset passwords but was unable.

Can anyone help...???
