I ran into this problem under W2K and it turned out to be
a problem with my Administrator privileges. Once I
changed them I was able to turn off the read only
attribute. However, it just happened again on my wife's
laptop which runs XP Home. (The problem must be initiated
by a piece of software I'm running on her system as well
as mine - image files being uploaded while on vacation).
I can't find the privileges associated with Administrator
and can't change them. I found references to simple
sharing but am not sure how to turn it off. Are we
talking Network Sharing or Local Sharing? The latter
doesn't seem to be a productive place to look. All of
Drive C: is now read only.
