Amy,

This behavior can occur if the Windows XP System Restore feature is
corrupted. To resolve this issue, turn off the System Restore feature, and
then turn it back on. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: You must turn on the System Restore feature after you turn it off to
resolve this issue.

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click "Switch to Classic View",
   and then double-click System.

2. Click the System Restore tab, and the click to select the
"Turn off System Restore" check box.

3. Click OK, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to
turn off the System Restore feature.

4. Restart the computer.

You may receive the following error message when you restart Windows:

The system has recovered from a serious problem.
A log of this error has been created.

5. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

6. Click the System Restore tab, and the click to *clear* the
"Turn off System Restore" check box.

7. Click OK, and then restart the computer.

| I keep getting a message that says "...has encountered a
| problem and needs to shut down" Whatever program,
| whether it is Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer,
| Microsoft Works, etc... will then shut down and I cannot
| get it to open without restarting the computer. I
| checked my "event viewer" and found that when this is
| happening it is a "system error" and the category number
| is 102. I tried the W32.Blaster.worm repair but the
| problem started before that worm so it was not found. I
| have tried restoring my computer but it still has the
| problem. Also, after I restored my cd burner stopped
| working. I would appreciate any help that can be offered.
| (My computer is an emachine T1840).
