First, no update to XP from MS that I know of sets anything
to prompt for alternate credentials (use RunAs)
You should verify just exactly what is was that was downloaded
and installed. Are you sure it was something from Microsoft?

What is it that is being done when this prompting happens ??
If it is clicking on a shortcut, then you can go into the r-click
properties of the shortcut and deselect for it to use alternate
credentials.
