Hi Diana,
Just to be curious, do you have anti-virus software installed and up to date
on the laptop? How about a personal or hardware firewall? With the rate that
new viruses/worms are hitting the Internet it's possible that you could be
infected by something (just a thought). Are you using a web-based email
service (Hotmail, Yahoo etc...) when the problem occurs or is this happening
when you use Outlook Express? Does the problem only occur when you're
connected to the Internet/network, or does this problem occur regardless of
network status? If your system is virus free, you might want to try and
uninstall the security update if possible. You'll need to figure out which
update to uninstall based on the date and use the Add/Remove Programs option
under Control Panel. You should be able to access that information by going
to Windows Update and selecting the "View Installation History" link. If all
else fails, you could try doing a system restore back to a point before
2/4/04. Select Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System
Restore.
