Pop Ups and Firewall Protection

I am looking for advice on which Pop-Up Blocker and /or Firewall protection to subscribe to. I have noticed that the "free" ones help, but I am still annoyed. I have also noticed that programs are added to my computer, "home" site changed, and other changes made without my permission. Any help is appreciated.
