When policies are unavailable it is because they have been set from Active Directory.
You should bring this to the attention of those running the domain infrastructure.
It is not at all uncommon for us to need to handle mobil machines differently.
Your options are disjoin from the domain, or get them to alter how the domain is
defined for mobil clients.

I have a laptop that I hooked up to our company network. It set the automatic updates for Windows XP and they have been disabled for changing.
I want to be able to take this laptop home and chance these settings, but they are grayed out and I can't changes the settings. What do I need to do? support.Microsoft.com doesn't have any help.
