I know this isn't really the place, but I am so frustrated I don't know
where to turn and Symantec's Support is just awful!
I have WINXP Home, everything good, up to date, lots of everything (memory,
drive space, resources & GHZ), etc.
When I got my computer 3 months ago, I installed Norton Anti-Virus and
Norton Internet Security 2003. Both worked great. I was happy.
But I wanted to get Norton SystemWorks 2004.
So I install NSW, which includes NAV 2004 but NOT NIS 2004, there is a 90
second or more dead time between the time my desktop comes up and the time
NAV and NIS finally show up on the task bar. During this time, the computer
is virtually useless. Prior to the NSW install, there was perhaps a 1 second
lag time.
Symantec and their useless, overseas tech support, has told me that this is
normal, but I think that is a crock.
So, anyone here happen to have a similar problem.
And does anyone think that if I upgrade my NIS 2003 to NIS 2004 to match my
NSW, will the problem go away.
BTW, if I uninstall NSW and NAV 2004 and then go back to NAV 2003,
everything is fine.
BUT, if I then go back to install NSW WITHOUT the NAV 2004 module, the
problem re-occurs.
I believe it has something to do with the NISUM service, which Symantec, in
rather broken typed English, tells me does an analysis of NIS updates
installed. If I could turn it off I would, but when I have NAV 2003 and NIS
2003 installed, NISUM only takes a few seconds.
Here is NISUM before NAS installed (copied from event list, lines are
truncated for privacy):

Information 11/27/2003 8:36:27 AM NISUM None 3 SYSTEM
Information 11/27/2003 8:36:27 AM ccEvtMgr None 26 SYSTEM
and after:

Information 12/16/2003 6:57:06 AM NISUM None 3 SYSTEM
Information 12/16/2003 6:57:06 AM ccEvtMgr None 26 SYSTEM
Information 12/16/2003 6:57:06 AM ccSetMgr None 1 SYSTEM
Anyway, if anyone can help or direct me to effective help I would be most
grateful.
Dave
