The difference is:
First scenario: .txt file in the root directory of XP
Professional (XPP). Open Explorer on 2k or ME,
locate .txt file on XPP. Modify it. Save successful.
Second scenario: .txt file in a directory (not the root
directory) of XPP. Open Explorer on 2k or ME,
locate .txt file on XP. Modify it. Save unsuccessful.
2k says You do not have permission to open this file. ME
say Cannot access file.

I cannot view the permission settings on XP. If in
Explorer I right click the folder concerned there is no
Security tag, only sharing. In sharing I can set Share
this folder on the network and Allow network users to
change my files but this allows 2k and ME to modify files
but only in this folder not in its subfolders.

Surely I don't have to set the network sharing and
security for every folder and sub folder whose files I
want to modify from the other PC's? How do I set
permissions on the XPP PC?
