Well after posting that, I shut down to go to bed. Guess what it was back
to normal! The ONLY thing that I've done to POSSIBLY change it back was:
(I had previously changed my logon option to NOT show the welcome
screen--this caused the logon dialog box to come up)
I dislike the dialog even more than the welcome screen so I set it BACK to
show the welcome screen. I think that this somehow reset it for me.
If anyone has experienced this trouble, see if that helps.
