The Symantec article is written more for 9x systems than Windows 2000/XP.
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Locate the Shell value in the right pane. It should read "explorer.exe"
or "Explorer.exe", without the quotes. Your's probably reads "explorer.exe
dust.exe". Right click the Shell value and select Modify. Change it so
that it only reads Explorer.exe
