Windows XP sp1 Failed on Install

While updating one of my older machines with service pack
1 for XP, it crashed near the end. Going back into the
windows update catalog, the sp1 install shows it as still
in progress, however on my drive are all the install
files that I cannot remove (access denied). Is there
anyway, to finish the update? I looked through most of
the support docs on how to remove the sp1 update, but
they were very vauge or I couldn't find what they said to
look for. I would prefer to remove the update and do it
again, but if there is another option, please let me
know. Thanks.
