Has anyone experienced this problem?
I have a Dell desktop PC with XP Home. I shutdown the PC
with no problems at all. When I tried to reboot several
hours later, I got the following Windows error message
before the boot process got to the login screen:
"Services.exe - Application Error.
The application failed to initialized properly
(0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the
application."
I normally reach the login screen within 20 seconds. It
took 10 minutes after I clicked OK, and then another 10
minutes to get a partial desktop. Everything is
glacially slow; can't use any applications; the PC is
basically a paper weight now.
Don't know if I got infected by a virus or trojan, or if
something else went wrong.
Dell Tech Suppt suggestions were unsuccessful (parallel
Win XP Home installation). Microsoft Tech Suppt
suggested that I try again with Dell! Dell punted and
said to contact a third party recovery company to backup
critical data, call Dell back and go thru a full format
and re-installation of everything with them (aarghhhhhh)!
Has anyone experienced this problem and come up with a
fix without formatting?
