A new profile gets created because the user is new to the domain. It does
not matter if the user was logging on as JoeUser locallly and now logs to
the domain with an account w/ the same username. The accounts have
different SIDS so a new profile is generated.
You should be able to copy the old profile to the new profile and change
the permissions so that the domain user now has permissions to that profile.
Here are the basic steps to copy the profile.
1. Log on as an administrator and go to Control Panel.
2. Double click the System icon and select User Profiles.
3. Select the old profile and click the Copy to button.
4. Click the Browse button.
5. For Windows 2000 installations that are upgrades from Windows NT 4.0
and for Windows NT 4.0 installations, click the Profiles subfolder in
the Windows NT 4.0 folder and click the user name folder to which you
want to assign profile.
6. Click the Change button, select Permitted to use, then specify the
target <user account>. (If the target is 'Default User', then the
'\Everyone' account should be specified.)
7. Click OK three times to close all dialog boxes.
