Protected My Documents arghh

I made the mistake of deleting my Login password (so I could use autologin
..bad move) and replying Yes to the prompt "Do I wish to make my
Documents secure?" or something like that...

Then a few days later I believe a hardware setup problem killed my boot
files in the CONFIG folder and I could not recover using the repair files
with the Recovery Desktop. So I reinstalled XP
Pro and I had to delete my XP installation but I preserved my files.
Unfortunately my new login no longer gives me access to my old login or "My
Documents" in my old login.... with the error message. "access denied."

Is there any way to recover these files?

I am Admin on this family PC and
generally the only user. I was using XP Pro SP1 on an AMD2800+ 1GB with
Zone Alarm and using both AVG and recently NOD32 AV programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Tony

ps
No idea how why the hardware problem which crashed XP and deleted the Config
files or perhaps I got the virus, but I am not a newbie with XP and have
been using it for almost 2 years and I find this very irritating, that XP is
so easy to make difficult.
 I always
wonder if the general local server client is permitting impersonated logins
to create trojan files and why the security levels are sometimes so quick to
report faults but even shorter to offer solutions.
