start > run type "msconfig" without the quotes.

go to the "startup" tab at the top and then disable anything that you dont want starting up when you log on. each little thing takes time to load, so the more "little things" you have, the longer your load time will be. some things are necessary, but others could be old/unused that can be safely disabled. visit www.microsoft.com and search for "msconfig" without the quotes within the windows XP area for more information on this feature.

also remember, the more programs you have loaded, i.e. the more harddrive space you take up, the longer your load time at the beginning as well. you might want to think about removing some old programs you dont use anymore. start > control panel > add/remove programs. again, visit www.microsoft.com and search for "add/remove programs" for more information on this feature.
