What ISP service are you using?

Assuming you have AOL, you'll need to install a third-party firewall.
America Online installs its own connection settings that override
the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows XP's
built-in firewall.

Visit the following web site for instructions on downloading
a FREE firewall program for your computer.

| I tried to enable the firewall in the Windows XP
| software, but was unable to do so. I have a Dell laptop
| and have modem internet access.
|
| These are the steps I took, as directed by Windows Help:
|
| I went to Control Panel and chose Network connections.
| I clicked on the icon for the dial-up and then went to
| Network Tasks and clicked on "Change settings of this
| connection." Nothing happens.
|
| When I clicked on the LAN or Hi-speed Internet icon
| (Note: I do not have either type of connection, but was
| just experimenting to see if this would work), I could
| then click on "Change settings of this connection" and it
| would bring up the Local Area Connection property box.
|
| Could someone please tell me why I cannot do this for the
| dial-up connection?
