Windows Update won't recognize Admin account

I'm trying to run Windows Update on an XP Home Ed. laptop
so I can see if any newer device drivers are available.
When I connect to MS's site and get the Welcome to
Windows Update screen, it gives me a page in the right
hand frame that says I need to run as Administrator.
However, I created a new user account called Admin that
has administrator rights and it is not recognizing those
rights, just like it didn't for the prime user account I
tried using before that also had admin rights. I'm
running Zone Alarm & Norton AV and using AOL 8.0.

Any ideas how I get around this?
