You could do that.. But considering that you said, "when i'm not on the
net", I believe Mike should read before typing... Not to mention the advice
is that I would give if I wanted to have more machines to attempt to hack
and exploit.
Your best bet(s) are to:
Download, Install, Update and scan with LavaSoft's AdAware and Spybot Search
and Destroy applications.
You can search google to find a place to download them.
Keep your AntiVirus Software updated and perform an occassional full system
scan.
Turn on your ICF (Built-In Windows XP Firewall) or download a free one.
You can disable the Messenger service if you like. If you are using a UPS
that sends you messages about incidents or an AntiVirus software that uses
it to warn you of issues, you will no longer receive these useful warnings.
Update your Windows System frequently at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
How to do any of that, where to get free antivirus software or free firewall
software, etc - can be found by using GOOGLE to search for the keywords.
One other thing.. Don't use your real email address on a newsgroup.. You may
also start noticing lots of email from "microsoft" soon telling you to
patch. LIES! You are being spammed. heh
